Traditionally Value Added (VA) is measured as a terminal ‘score’ at the end of an academic course. At Bowden we felt that this data would be much more useful if it were something that could be measured more formatively.

At Bowden we have developed a value added concept that enables students and staff to track progress that is considered beyond a students expected target level of performance.

We use a data system called VIEW (please see VIEW tab) to set a ‘bandwidth’ for every student that we educate, in every subject. This bandwidth forms a representation of what we would expect the student to achieve over the time they are with us.

The lower bandwidth is a fixed entry point for each student, but the upper bandwidth is more permeable, allowing students to stretch beyond their targets in certain areas. The image below show how we measure this:
